Welcome to Bosom Pals (MK)!
Bosom Pals is the primary Breast Cancer Support Group in Milton Keynes.
Run wholly by volunteers, the Group was established in 1991 by two ladies (Eileen Garrad and Mary Lewis), who had recently received treatment for Breast Cancer. They were supported and assisted in setting up the Group by Susan Steadman (nee Seymour), who was, at that time, employed in the role of Breast Care Nurse at Milton Keynes General Hospital.
Whilst Eileen and Mary felt relatively happy with the medical attention and treatment which they had received, both were surprised and alarmed at the isolation which they felt, and the lack of relevant support on offer after discharge from hospital.
Having successfully come through their respective treatment programmes, and having supported each other through the latter stages, they set about forming a support network to ensure that other Breast Cancer patients in the area would have somewhere to turn for support.
